葫芦谷之战(The Battle at Bottle Gourd Valley)

葫芦谷(Bottle Gourd Valley) the place where Sima Yi (Zhongda) and Zhuge Liang(Kongming) had their last great battle.

Bottle Gourd Valley is very narrow and movement through it is very hindered.

In his last attempt to win Sima Yi, Kongming decided to use this advantageous ground to kill Sima Yi. His plan was to lure Sima Yi and his troops into the valley, trap them and kill them with fire. Foolproof plan it was, because the plan was executed so subtly that Sima Yi never guessed that there was something wrong.

As Kongming as expected, he succeeded in luring Sima Yi into the valley. The valley full of combustible material, burned when 5000 troops on each side of the valley set fire to the materials. Sima Yi cried to his two sons: The three of us family are going to die here today. Arghhhh!!!

But then the winds rose and the dark clouds grew. Then a strong thunderstorm came. Yes you guessed it, the storm blew out Zhuge Liang's efforts to kill Sima Yi and allowed him to escape.

At that point of time, Zhuge Liang was so frustrated and helpless that he sighed and looked to the skies. "Oh you infinite skies. I could plan much but you let me down just as much. Heaven is not on my side (某事在人,成事在天,天不助我也)", he said loudly to the Heavens.

After that, Sima Yi was so frightened that he never ever engaged Zhuge Liang. He held on at his position and waited for Zhuge Liang to die. Indeed, Zhuge Liang could not find any other way to fight Sima Yi and he died at Wuzhangyuan (五丈原), which means Five Yard Plains in English.

Sometimes, things that you planned out will not work out the way you want it to, because probably God is in His Heaven. But that doesn't mean you should give up. You should do your best.

Sometimes no matter how you try to do something, it never works out, it is not meant to be. So let go, like what Buddhism says. Learn to let go and let live. No worries

Sometimes, you don't have to think too much before you do anything. Just do your best and leave the rest up to God, or fate, or the infinite skies, whichever you believe in.

Sometimes its all about luck.
