Ratatouille

Just watched Ratatouille.

Fantastic Film from Brad Bird, who came up with 'The Incredibles'

Well, saved for a few cheesy moments and if you ignored the improbability of certain plot parts, the film is very solid and yet enjoyable.....

Pacing was even and aesthetic unity is strong enough for the plot to move efficiently ahead.....

I give it four and a half stars

The film makes me want to be a chef

But I only know how to eat.

So I can be a food critic.

Oh by the way, my next short film is tentatively titled 'Tuitionation'

If I get my way, it will star a theatre star.

Haha

A Sixth One

That day went Crystal Jade Kitchen at Holland V to meet nat and karin......

Do you all know that Crystal Jade got two outlets in Holland V?

Well I didnt. So I rush into the wrong one then cannot find the two of them then kenna laughed at by the stupid waitress.....

Anyway, eat and eat like mad and like spend alot....

Well, can't help it if you are rich and earns money easily of course......

Haha.

Anyway a sampling of what we ate

Of course there was more but we forgot to take pictures... Too hungry to care

Yay!

Koh Huiling say I turning brown..... I always wanted to be abit more tanned

Yay!

Manage to squeeze in one more production at the end of year JUST before the Sichuan trip

So its like the sixth already. Record breaking......But I doubt I will push pass that or even reach the same number in the year to come.....

I probably wont be staying in Singapore for Christmas cause a trip to China will take all the way till 30th.....

Sometimes, our dreams offer us comfort that the real world will never give.....

So as long as I can, I will continue to dream.....

Child's Play

Read on if you want a upmost unique perception of something extremely ordinary.
This is 'Act 20', a children's production.

Children's productions usually have hidden moral values within them.... And since they are watched by kids, they cannot be too hard to understand.

Thus it compromises the depth of the play.

But Act 20 is a multi-layered show filled with sexual undertones and homoerotic tensions....

Just think about it......

Why are guys playing with balls in the opening act?

And then girls join in after awhile with bigger balls.......

Why there's a guy banging doors which are supposedly male?

And the doors are homoerotically coloured red?

Why do 2 parents not bring their daughter along on an outing to Mount Faber? It hints of strange and awkward inconvenience.....

Is it because they wanted to do something immoral up on the hill.....

We see a king running the country in his tumultous court but where is his queen? Or even concubines?

What happens when the king needs to release his carnal fustrations?

When the Prime Minister beside him offers help, does it suggest more than simply straightening a crooked back?

A village only has six dogs and about fifteen chickens...... Perhaps it is an indication of a thriving trade deep down in the dirty and dark underbelly of the village heartland?

Does a male cat catch a male rat only because its his nature? What exactly is his nature?

And then we have a whole gang of boys and girls riding wooden horses vibrantly..... And they proclaim that a dirty alley is their heaven.

What dark secrets are they trying to hide?

Would they be reaching out for help by singing about it loudly?

Children productions always don't mean much to me..... They are always as complex as a plain sheet of photocopying paper....

But 'Act 20' wins me over with its very subtle and colourful expression of its ultimately dark and forbidden thematics...

I mean, who can really achieve such a quietly powerful standard?

Haha

Porridge Hotpot

Today went to Liang Seah Street to have Porridge Hotpot with Junpeng, Jiajun and Yonglin.....

Weird combination right?

I know. Tze Hui pang seh.

Even more weird. Yonglin and Jiajun was delayed by something.... So I and Junpeng went Tong Shui for a drink while waiting....

I discovered something about myself.....

I didnt know I am a good conversationalist..... Haha not very familiar with each other but I can dig out 101 things to talk about until the two arrive....

Heard alot about 'purple airplane'..... Oooooo, so interesting. very dramatic.

And I meant it. Not being sarcastic or anything

In retrospect, sometimes QNT shows provide the fun and excitement that no professional theatre group can ever give.

Haha

Emo Scripts For Emo Short Films

That's it...

All the people in the world have left Singapore.....

Well not exactly all the people in the world..... But close to everyone

When you all come back, lets do a show together...

Kunhua and I did 'Ignorland' together, and it was quite fun.......

A picture to describe my emotions now....

Watched '881' alone the other day. So super uneven.... I think Royston Tan can do much much better than this.... But to be fair, the so-so story is covered by the competent acting of Liu Ling Ling, Yeo Yann Yann, Mindee Ong and Lin Ru-ping. Qi Yuwu didnt have much creative space to work with....

Watched 'The Home Song Stories' with Karin yesterday.... Another so-so story..... But of course it was more consistent than '881' Covered by the excellent acting by Joan Chen and Qi Yuwu. Qi Yuwu is one of the few Mediacorp artiste that can actually act properly, both on small screen and big. And he is versatile also.

The other day, I went to a super-emo place in Brainforest of Clementi to take a breather in between isolating proteins and staining electro-blotting membranes......

There I formulated some ideas for my short film next year.... Shit... cause cannot shoot gureilla style film already....

Added too many layers into the story so must slowly shoot to bring out the desired flavours

Conclusion?

HKT, in real life

Hairspray

Watched 'Hairspray' yesterday at the new AMK Hub.

Er.... actually is it new or just that I sua ku never go before?

Talk about asking the obvious

Anyway the movie was fantastic..... Simply wonderful...... And I love it very much. But in a different way as Perhaps Love.

Er.... Lazy to elaborate more....

A few days ago, I had a new idea for a short film all of a sudden.......

So there's a high chance I will take a film module next semester and make the short film..... if I can formulate the idea properly by then.....

But this time round it will be made guerrilla style......

Maybe one day, I will make a musical. But I think musical films are very very difficult to do.....

A place so full of memories....... The good and the bad all in it......

My life will be very different if it ever get demolished....

It will be like taking away a precious part of me.....

Please don't say goodbye.

Gekleng Off To Taiwan

"要走的人始终会走的,留也留不住" - HKT, in real life

Yesterday morning went to see Gekleng off at the airport.

My friend.

The one that I always feel happy talking to. Okay. Not always. Mostly

The one that is damn funny.

The one that I go so many places and play so many things together with.

Gone. Just like that.....

Yet another friend separated from me within a span of four days.

Within two weeks, four of my good friends would have dispersed all over the world.

I kinda regret taking on 'Ignorland' now. Cause my schedule is so packed I cannot spend time with good friends before they leave Singapore

I got to be in charge of the next ticketed performance next June......

So going to learn aspects of producing and other stuff like forum theatre....

Yay.

Isn't this what I always wanted?

To learn properly about theatre?

Yah. I am happy about learning.

Really. I am glad got people to properly teach me.

But why does it feel like some thing is missing?

No more words of apology please.

They are just irritatingly futile words that people say to make themselves feel less guilty.

If........

Sigh. Forget it.

Season of Departures

Yesterday watched 天冷

Don't really hate it, but don't really like it either.....

To me, its just another one of those shows that I have watched.....

I know alot of people are going to hate me for saying this, cause they LOVE 天冷

Er..... but I don't care......

This is the season of departures..... Everybody leaves Singapore for somewhere else......

Everybody but me.....

Kunhua, Boonseng, Gekleng and Weiliang..... All leaving for somewhere....

Sigh....

And some people.... even though they are still here....it feels like they have already left me.....

I stayed back and didnt go for SEP for two reasons.....

One of them I failed already.....

The other one is because I wanted to spend more time in theatre.....

So I hope I will love working in Youth Incubator.....

So that I wont regret staying back.... or feel stupid...
