Life's Like That

Now my favorite drink in the world is Ice Milo

Or anything that Da Chang Jin make for me to drink in my dreams.

Haha i have been influenced by SuperBand contestant Milo Peng.

For those who have lived on Pluto for quite sometime, let me explain abit on this.

Milo Peng in chinese stands for lost soldiers. But it is also the verbal translation for Ice Milo in hokkien to chinese.

The superband contestants named themselves Milo Peng because they love to drink milo peng.

See? SO funny right. The band, throughout the few weeks of competition, have always been very humorous. Everytime they do something mischeivious and funny, which makes them endearing to people, girls and boys.

Anyway, though I am no expert on music, I like their brand of music because I think it is simple solid and yet inventive.

Taking old songs and changing them abit here and there in terms of style and essence. That is like the type of scripts that I want to write. Simple, solid and yet inventive.

Anyway I think I know who is going to win Superband Contest.

A band called Summer Breeze. Haha

This band is so terrible that if there is a competition for the worst band, they would win it. One time I hear them sing, I feel that I want to slit my throat.

Yet, week after week, even when they are ranked last professionally, they manage to survive based on popular vote. Better bands have been eliminated just to keep them in. So annoying.

Like Jerry Ong in Singapore Idol.

So why the band so bad I still predict they will win? Am I out of my mind?

No I am not out of mind. They survive every week because of fengshui reason. You all see hah, now is summer and always got wind. So according to fengshui, summer breeze is very auspicious. So if your band name is Summer Breeze also, then you do everything also lucky.

So I predict Summer Breeze will win the competition. Haha. NaHuBuTiNaHu

Haha. So next time if you want to win competition, get yourself an auspicious name.

Like if GEKL want to participate in Superhost again, then maybe can change name to Winter Death (Dong Si) because winter alot of people die.

Me In The Palace

Recently, held a second birthday banquet with another group of friends.

They got me something that I wanted.

Haha.

Haha. Funniest Photo of the year

Anyway after the banquet I went home to watch the show as if there was no day and night. On the second night after completing the show, I dreamt of Lee Young Ae.

There was a cooking competition. There was a choice to make. There was hearts broken. Actually one heart only. There was tears and somebody running away.

Haha

In the end, it was a bittersweet dream.

The DaVinci Attraction

Today had nothing to do because it is the Olevel chinese and people keep cancelling my tuition. Wonder why that does not translate into a rise of tuition frequency for GEKL such that he got so much time to go Wild Wild Wet to show off his fats.

Anyway, decide to take a break from scriptwriting and so went to buy GEKL presents from Bugis. Actually didnt want to go but dunno why I volunteered also.

We chose a nice green coloured cap for GEKL. Hope he like it very much because not cheap.

Then after that went to Cathay to watch 2 consecutive movies. The DaVinci Code and Bewitching Attraction. Dont worry I am not about to review them because I dont intend to be a full time critic.

But I just want to say that it is an absolute waste of my time, not to mention money because I have plenty. Both were sort of horrific and unentertaining and simply boring.

Just to point out, DaVinci Code came out tops in box office beating even Mission 3 which is such an incredibly exciting movie. The only reason why is probably because the book is very interesting and controversial and people was kaypoh enough to want to find out how the movie would be.

The DaVinci attraction is very very powerful.

Come Thursday there will be no day and night because by then I would have received a set of Da Chang Jin (Jewel in the palace) VCD and then I will watch and watch until I either finish the whole show or die of watching, whichever comes first.

Jewel Attraction: I am so in love with Lee Young Ae.

Family Show

After I lost out in the script competition for August Production, I have started conceptualising and writing the next few.

Here is one written in revenge for my first script: Family Show (家庭剧)

11 or 12 scenes. I am a true blue taurean. People tell me family shows very channel 8 and passe already but I still tiaokang(hokkien for deliberately) want to write.

I am like that one. People tell me cannot do what I must still do for them to see. Haha. No wonder they always say stubborn cow but not stubborn rabbit or stubborn rabbit.

Here is an excerpt from my unfinished script:

Probably not too good. But please await my final product.

Haha. This is a vanity posting. I just want people to say "Whoa! well written. Cant wait for your finished product" or "looks very promising"

You Raise Me Up

Thats the song that was sung the most number of times at the Singapore Auditions of Singapore Idol.

They certainly raise me up. My hair, I mean.

Haha NaHuBuTiNaHu. Thats a good one. I think i can come up with better criticism of people if I were a Singapore Idol judge, seriously.

Lets try some:

1) If there was a competition for the worst singing, you would win it.

2) You are the musical equivalent of a fire alarm

3) If you sang like that 2000 years ago people would have stoned you to death.

4) If I wanted to commit suicide I would listen to you sing

5) If I were to choose between listening to you sing or slitting my wrist I would slit my wrist. At least I can recover from that.

6) That was horrendous with a capital H

7) A damaged guitar would sound better than you.

8) You make J Lo look like a real singer

9) That was incredibly bad. So bad I feel like running away

10) The difference between you and william hung is that your name is not William Hung.

Wahahahaha, NaHuBuTiNaHu.

The Singapore Idol judges are very tame. They never dish out entertaining comments which make the audience laugh. Seriously I think Idol competition is about the auditions. Otherwise why people want to watch? Maybe the judges were brainwashed by government theme: When you speak you have to speak with care and responsibility.

Anyway I dont understand why Singapore also got so many crazy people. Seriously, so fat so ugly and somemore cannot sing but still say they think they are the next singapore idol. I wonder if woodbridge hospital CEO got see auditions or not. They got alot of potential business. Can treat people for self delusion.

Seriously, these people should wake up. If i know any of these people personally I would have killed myself. They just make a spectacle out of themselves and then let people mock at them.

There is seriously a reason why some of your goals are called dreams you know.

And they keep saying Singaporeans are the most pragmatic bunch of people on Earth.

To those who are unabashed, unenlightened and untalented:

You can never be a star, wait Nong Nong also dont have.

NaHuBuTiNaHu

NaHuBuTiNaHu

Do u know what that means? This whole week I heard this from a few friends. I think the first one to say it is GEKL. Anyway today he thought me the meaning of the phrase and after that, throughout the whole time we were in Bugis, I keep saying it when I have the chance.

It sounds very stupid one. Something GEKL would say and make people laugh.

NaHuBuTiNaHu

Anyway today I heard from KH that somebody think I am proud to be a loner.

LanJiao understand?

Obviously it is someone who read one of my blog postings. And it is also obvious he never read properly.

I said it is okay to go out alone. I said dont have to care what people think when you are shopping centring alone. I said sometimes it is good to be alone.

The person who read this and think I am a loner and proud of it, I really want to go infront of you and show my middle finger.

NaHuBuTiNaHu.

English need to brush up for this guy who anyway read my blog and anyhow say.

I hardly go out alone. Except buy noodles for lunch and mon i need to go watch bewitching attraction. Otherwise I am at home, writing my scripts.

Only when people ask me out: like GEKL ask me go eat supper then i will go out one.

NaHuBuTiNaHu.

Anyway I watch 'objects of desire' and 'queen ping' and will publish reviews soon.

Not that anyway would want to read my reviews. Haha

Results

A few results came along this few days.

Highlight of the week: Barcelona clashes with Arsenal.

Somehow I thought it was a bit of a letdown because Ronaldinho didnt shine as expected. But then nonetheless the match had me at the edge of my bed for 80 mins because I betted heavily on Barcelona and Arsenal was leading all the way.

But due to my faith in Frank Rijkaard and his soldiers, they prevailed, though under the most controversial circumstances. Anyway I did some scriptures chanting before the match so Mdm Guanyin must be watching over my money as well.

For those who will be benefitting from my treat, better thank her oso. If not for her, i think there will be no treat.

Hope she watch over my finances for the world cup as well. Haha

NUS students can now check your RESULTS (OVERALL CAP)

Cue: Deep Breath / Gasp

Serious. I check already. Log into your intranet to check your academic record

I and GEKL check already and we got good news.

Haha. Sort of.

Though it was again sort of a letdown for me.

Shopping, anyone??

Arcade All These Years

Friday night I and super famous GEKL went to Kovan for meal.

He kept complaining about how he treated a friend to a expensive meal. Since I started rising from the ashes, I was like: 'Okay lah okay lah, since I become better now so I treat him to meal lah'

Anyway wanted to eat at the very nice hawker centre but really too much people so ended up in White Tangerine again. Eat and eat and eat but still only 20 dollars only.

At first we just stayed in White Tangerine and played UNO. I never see people cheat in UNO before but that night I see again and again. I think people will be super shock to see celebrities cheat in UNO. Haha

After that the night is still young so we just keep walking around Kovan.

Two restless young adults, walking around Hougang heartland. We are the budding unique artists.

In the end we ended up playing Kovan arcade because GEKL want to play competitive games with me. He think he can cheat at everything and win me. We played Time Crisis and Daytona. GEKL is very good at time crisis so he can survive very long. Admire him for that

Then hor Daytona I keep winning him. In the end he still dare to declare even if he lose he considered the champion. Dont know who declare one. Somemore dont understand his logic.

When we walked away from the arcade, while talking halfway, I discovered that he didnt have his newly bought pants with him. So we quickly go back. SO funny, we were there bending down walking around like two senile old man. Haha

In the end I found the pants at one of the game stations.

When we tell people that we pplayed arcade on an outing, people thought we boliao and some quite surprised why people like us play arcade.

But if dont play arcade then do what? Always is watch movies and eat dinner and sing karaoke then after that leh? Singapore so small nothing to do. Nothing to keep restless young adults entertained.

Anyway, we are unique people who do different things from other people. Dont wanna conform to what our age people should do.

Do different things and strange things. That are what defines us.

Go To Jail

Today went to 'White Tangerine' at Kovan with GH and Basu and HS and EV.

I held my birthday banquet there because it is new to them and I am sure they will enjoy it. Anyway there are games to play. The food is fantastic and very very cheap.

We ate and ate and ate so much food that we wanted to die. In the end, only seventy dollars. But everything was quite junk food except the main courses.

Then we played scrabble and monopoly.

I was quite happy to point out that due to my good luck at the right time, I practically MONOPOLISED the entire monopoly session.

I actually started out as the underdog but with a sudden turn I exploded and started alot of shrewd acquisitions and in the end I was the winner of the game.

The most funny thing was when people went to jail. Seeing them go to jail give you a high, as long as it is not you who went to jail.

And even better. During one round, GH just got out of jail. He landed on 'chance', which sent him back to jail immediately after he got out. We laughed and laughed until Basu got hiccups. Then barely three rounds later, GH went back to jail again because of 'community chest' He got the highest record of going to jail for the night.

It was a fun night lah. We caught up as we have not seen each other since the last event.

Anyway I won monopoly, which was quite rare so I was quite happy.

Thanks guys.

Yesterday I learnt how five percent chance can actually make a difference.

Seriously.

A script will be laid to rest permanently.

But it lives on in my heart.

Now back to the backstage.

SuperStars

Today was taking a bus to my tuition kid's house.

Start Point Bishan. Start time 7.05 om
End point Serangoon. End time 8.00 pm

There was an extremely HUGE traffic jam. The bus was moving 6 inches per min. OMG!

I was very irritated to see what caused the extremely long jam from serangoon all the way to ang mo kio. Finally, when i reached the head of the stupid queue, I finally saw IT. The thing that caused the dumb jam.

They are superstars holding their event at Serangoon Stadium. Thousands of people literally FLOCKED to the stadium to see them. For the first time, I saw humans can actually be bigger than cars. A whole long barricade of three layer thick human barrier blocked the entire traffic junction.

No. It is no Steven Lim. No, it is not Ruhua either. And no, nowadays nobody want to see Slyvester Sim.

It is: The Workers' Party Candidates of Aljunied.

And there were many many people. SO SO SO Many people until people overflow the stadium. People attending the rally had to sit outside the stadium on grass patches. A bit like Wimbledon in London.

Singaporeans really lived up to their names. Damn kaypoh one leh. Anything that is abit interesting they flock and flock to see what is going on.

Not say in the end they will vote for the opposition. I know some will. Because I see many people flying the workers party flag on the road and also in their cars.

But alot just go because they think got something good to kaypoh. They dont even know what the opposition try so hard to explain. I pity the opposition sometimes.

They make alot of sense sometimes. But the people listening to them dont make sense of anything.

Anyway Workers Party today at Aljunied more famous than Superstars. So many people go and see them. If open concert and see tickets, sure earn enough money for lift upgrading one.

Or sell popcorn lah. Then can provide free upgrading for everyone. Sure get elected one.

Haha

Easy Link

Was on my way to my tuition kid's house.

While sitting on the bus, suddenly I saw an uncle want to alight from the bus. Not blind and old and slow, just normal low class singaporean uncle.

Then when he want to alight, he tried to scan the ezlink card but cannot scan. Then he took out the card from the wallet and try to scan again.

Then suddenly a girl point out to him he put the card at the wrong place. He try to scan the card on the display screen of the machine. Of course cannot lah.

He was embarassed because many people look at him and he had to be taught how to scan his ezlink card.

I was wondering the ezlink thing so long oredi then he still dont know how to scan meh? Issit he just come back from Mars then never use the system before. Or today is the first trip on bus. Last time take trishaw one huh?

Anyway after he alight from the bus then got one low class singaporean auntie laugh at the low class uncle.

Aiyoh, laugh at people for what? You very smart meh? So smart then why take bus. Take helicopter lah.

Haha, no point.

Just talk about small things because exam over no more excitement. Better than walk around cold storage and talk about sasauge and pork cubes

Haha

Rise From The Ashes

Last time during Ali Baba, I keep complaining I am poor.

Yeah I am really poor then. For art sake, I sacrifice tuition time to do production.

I couldnt afford anything and everything. No clothes, no bus concession, and even when my belt broke, I couldnt afford to buy a new belt. I always eat bread for lunch. I dont dare go shopping centre. Hardly watch a movie.

Any money I spent was funded by my parents or by good friends. Everytime I take money from my mother, she criticised me for doing production when I cant even feed myself. My dad was nicer. He just give me money. And everytime quite alot.

WL lent alot of money to me. If without him alot of things cannot do. The most touching thing is, GEKL this kind of wriggling worm in the mud also help me even when he struggle himself

Without this four important people, I think I die long ago in Toa Payoh Lorong 8 already. Haha

But somehow, within ten short days, the very sad story dissolved before my eyes like cartoon. I was introduced to a client, and she like my teaching so she introduce alot alot of people for me. This client is very kind and she help me fight the low tuition rates. She herself ask her two daughters to take 3 tuition lesson from me everyweek. This two months she want intense so my project income is about to hit two thousand dollars and counting.

Now my stable income is about four figure a month. I rose from the ashes.

Thank you everyone for supporting me through the hard times. If you need my help I will always be there to help.

I got one last tuition slot so if anyone wants or have someone to intro can contact me thanks.

Haha

Examination Fever Has subsided. In fact, since last thur, mine has subsided. I think I am one of the earliest to finish my exams. YEH!!

Next highlight would be my birthday.

Talking about that, sorry guys, there wouldnt be a birthday dinner at my house as planned. The story goes like this:

The time when I was planning this birthday dinner thing, my dad was working overseas and would come back only weekends. So I basically have the house to myself. But suddenly he became stationed back in Singapore just before my exams. My father is that kind always must cook at home to eat one. He doesnt eat food from outside. I dont really know why also and it bugs the hell out of me. So basically you can imagine my torture when I have to go home and eat most of the time. Especially this period when I have no money to eat outside.

One thing for sure, my father's cooking is like asking a koala bear to cook. Horrendous.

My point is because he wouldnt bug from home so I cannot hold a dinner in my house. Not without him being unhappy about it. So sayanee, we will have to eat out. Huay Guan Friends also, I will have to think of a place to eat with you all.

I and GEKL yesterday was talking about our birthdays and we decided that we will celebrate together. So exciting because I have never celebrated birthdays together with people except my relatives in the same month. It would probaby be fun because it is GEKL organise. He always so free nothing to do then come out with ideas to help people celebrate their birthdays wat.

He also say something true yesterday night which is he got tell people his wishlist because he dont want to see some strange presents that he dont like. So I also want to come out with wishlist because I also dont want to see strange things

Wishlist:

N90 nokia phone (haha the person give this to me I become his slave for the rest of the year)
Angbao with alot of money.
Da Changjin VCD

4.30

Went to watch Singapore Film Festival closing film at Lido yesterday. Was Royston Tan's Film 4.30.

4.30 is about a boy who is isolated by his businesswoman of a mother. Constantly busy in some foreign land, she never has time for the boy and leaves the boy with her korean tenant, who himself is nursing some heartbreak from his breakup with his girlfriend. The boy becomes lonely that he starts an unhealthy obsession with his mother's korean tenant, where he spies on him every morning at 4.30 am. The boy has very few highlights of the day. Besides spying on details of the korean everday at 4.30, he must switch off the radio of the taichi practising group every morning on the way to school and run away. He goes to the clinic very often to get cough syrup, and drinks them by the bottle everyday. School is another place of isolation, where teachers do not make an effort to understand the boy and always punish him for seemingly nonsensical stuff that he does.

Essentially, the film tries to explore alienation of people, especially children. Because Royston Tan shot the film in the boy's perspective, the film is larely silent with nary a dialogue to reflect the silence and loneliness of the boy. The boy has no one to accompany him and no role model in life. The film does not explain why his father is not around. So the boy decides to take the korean tenant as his role model, trying to understand the older man by studying his habits and personality.

There are a few homoerotic scenes where the boy tries to bridge out to the tenant. The boy and the tenant take turns to pee while each other is bathing. The boy pees into the bathtub while his tenant is bathing. The boy sleeps close next to a drunk tenant and takes a picture using a handphone. Finally, to check whether a hair found on the soap was his tenant's he cuts pubic hair from the tenant while the tenant is sleeping. Though so, this is not a gay film but these scenes are used to portray the intricate interaction between the boy and his tenant.

The film is very painful because we could well feel the sadness of the situation and the isolated world of the character. Xiao Li Yuan as the role of the boy turned in a very strong performance, conveying his emotions well to the audience with his detailed acting. The Korean was pained enough, though sometimes I was worried that he might sag in his performance. The pacing of the film was good, diliberately slow because director proably wants us to feel how slow each day can be for the boy. Accompanying music is kept simple like the simple lighting and setting, to bring out the focus on the solid story

The film takes a dark turn when the highlights of the boy's life is slowly taken away from the boy. The clinic closes so he no longer can get his cough syrup. A construction site occupies the park and the taichi group shifted to some unknown place. Finally, even the korean tenant moves out just when the boy and him started to interact.

Perhaps the tenant is afraid of investing his emotions in another person, as he has lost too much in his previous relationship. The film does not explain why and how did the relationship ended, but the audience are not meant to know because the film is shot in the perspective of the boy. Perhaps the tenant feels he might not be a good role model for the boy and he chooses to leave.

In the end, the boy's world become very dark and desperate, as reflected by the last few scenes and especially the closing scene, where he starts to paint his windows black in colour.

I loved the film because everything else is so simple so that we can focus on the simple solid story and not lose focus. The story is also focused enough, not trying to explain everything because in real life not everything can be explained properly or made known to us. Everything was quite thoughtful, though I felt at times that the film is too conscious of itself, especially in the last few scenes.

22 dollars was well spent and I look forward to Royston's next feature
